Aline Barnsdall commissioned Wright to build one of Wright’s first Los Angeles project, the Hollyhock House. The Hollyhock House was inspired by Barnsdall’s favorite flower. The geometric pattern on this masterpiece is design details from the home’s adjacent living room sidelights. The purple matched the Japanese screens that Barnsdall owned. Flowers and leaves of the hollyhock plant are the triangles around vertical stalks. On this glass panel, enamel colors are individually applied to a single sheet of glass, which is then kiln fired to permanently fuse the enamels to the glass. The glass panel is then framed with a metal came and includes hanging chain and wood stand for desk or table display. Ht: 14". W: 7.75".
