The Rookery Pattern Earringswere inspired by one of Sullivan's first early commercial skyscrapers in the heart of downtown Chicago. The Rookery was designed by the firm of Burnham and Root, with influences of Moorish, Byzantine, Venetian and Romanesque motifs. Frank Lloyd Wright had an office there in 1898 - 1899 and received a commission to redesign the lobby in 1905.
