This elegant Nichibei Potters hand made bamboo form vase in forest green glaze accented with brown glazed rim and interior works as both an individual piece or as part of a group. The Bamboo Vase is hand-thrown on the potters wheel. After throwing a tall cylinder, the bottom and center defining lines are added to allow the bamboo shape to take form. The branches are added half-way through the drying process. The piece is then low fired, glazed, and high fired. As each piece is a one of a kind handmade object, you may find slight variations in glaze and form. Variations are a beautiful part of the individual character and uniqueness of pottery made by hand. The piece you receive will be uniquely your own. Marked with logo and signed on base. Height: 8.25”.

Mikio Matsumoto became a potter after moving to California in 1985, and found clay to be the perfect medium for personal creative expression. Mikio’s sense of precision is visible in Nichibei’s meticulously carved jars. Cheryl Costantini has had a life long interest in pottery and traditional artistic expression. In 1978 she traveled to Japan. For the next 6 years she learned her craft by working in three Japanese potteries. Cheryl and Mikio formed Nichibei in 1985. Since then, the husband and wife team have shown their work at exhibitions in California, New York and Japan. Literally translated, Nichibei means “Japan and America.”
