The Frank Lloyd Wright March Balloons Art Glass Square Plate is made using innovative glass fusion techniques enhanced by hand-painted accents. The square plate is designed by San Francisco artist Benjamin Chang. The fusing of glass is done at temperatures just exceeding the glass’s melting point which causes the individual components to meld together into one piece. Dimension is added to the piece by placing the glass on top of various shaped molds allowing the glass to flow into or drape over the mold and take shape as it begins to melt. The design for this plate is adapted from an unpublished Liberty magazine cover design (1926-1927). The abstract motif designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the March cover depicts a group of colorful balloons rising into the sky. The editors thought that the series of designs were too "radical" and were never used. Size: 11.75" L x 11.75" W x 2.5" H. Hand-wash only.
