The essential aims of the movement were to revive the medieval guild system, reestablish high quality standards of workmanship, and make the idea of truth to materials the basis of design. The Arts and Crafts style sought to revive the joy of labor and espoused values of honesty, simplicity, and idyllic domesticity, with an emphasis on creating unique, handcrafted objects. In 1998 Norwest Bank Minnesota generously donated its entire corporate Modernism collection to The Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
